How cool is that?
Of all things they could have done, you know just say something nice about the guy, just put up a site, no they went and dedicated an amazing movie to Gregg Hoffman!!
I heard screams and hollers in the crowds at the theater when that dedication went across the screen.
Not quite as loud as when people noticed Billy's cameo, but the true fans know more of Gregg Hoffman then just the Saw Puppet.
I noticed the dedication to Gregg in the ending credits, very nice.

Oh, I thought that was sooo cute ^^
It doesn't really surprise me that the film was dedicated to Gregg, after all he did start the Saw franchise and give James a directing job *and Leigh the lead* after they'd just come from film school. Pretty ballsy move on his part, but it paid off, and now James and Leigh are on a hot streak...for the most part anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if James/Leigh dedicated most of their earlier films to him.
At least his last film was a good film. :o

Saw III was dedicated to him as well, but it wasn't in the credits.

Wasn't the name Hoffman in the opening credits of Saw III, or am I just imagining this?

yes, it's also in the opening credits of Dead Silence.
Dead Silence must have been completed before Gregg died because he's in the extra featurettes talking about the movie and talking about how great of an actress the woman who played Mary Shaw is..

I thought so, too. Wasn't the second or third SAW dedicated to him as well (can't remember which one)?
But I really miss him and wish he hadn't gone.
"Gregg Hoffman: In Memorium - Tribute To Producer Gregg Hoffman"...almost made me cry. My eyes were watering up, and I NEVER cry easily. My mother was in the room at the time, too, so that says something about the tribute. Really great.
EDIT: I thought Dead Silence was alright. SAW was better, but what can I say? I loved the ending to Dead Silence, though. That was great. Too bad Donnie's character died. He was cool.

Donnie's character died  well, that's the movie ruined
nvm, i'm gonna go see it anyway.
as for the tribute, well, as said, such a nice thing for them to do

It really was nice of them. I'd definitely do a tribute for him if I had the money and power.
And yeah, I knew Donnie's character would eventually die, but even though I knew, I hated when it happened. It was unfair how he died. It's really hard to keep from screaming when you're falling from like 3 or 4 stories high.

Spoiler warning dude? Haha. Yes, SAW II, SAW III, and Dead Silence were all dedicated to Gregg, and I know SAW IV will be. Probably Death Sentence too. SAW II had the dedication on the Billy/preview TV.
What I don't get is, if Dead Silence came out after SAW III hit theaters, and Gregg's not in any extra features of SAW III, and he died just after SAW II was filmed, how is he in the extra stuff on Dead Silence? Did they finish Dead Silence before SAW III and just not realease it?
Either way, Gregg was a great man, who will be terribly missed for a long time. The SAW films just won't be the same without him. SAW IV won't be the same without him. It's amazing how it's been almost, what, 2 years now? It feels like so much longer. If Gregg hadn't taken that chacne with Leigh and James, we wouldn't even be on this board right now. And reading this thread is making me tear up :(
R.I.P. Gregg!

It's extremely hard for me to watch the memorial tribute for him on the Saw II Special Edition DVD. It's just very sad.

according to this article, Dead Silence and Catacombs were both in post-production at the time of his death. i assume Saw 3 was filmed after those two.

GREGG HOFFMAN
Died - December 4, 2005
"Saw" and "Saw II" producer Greg Hoffman died of undisclosed causes at age 42. Mr. Hoffman had complained of neck pain and was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital where he died. Mr. Hoffman was a partner in Evolution Entertainment and Twisted Pictures. He found the short film "Saw" and was the person most responsible turning the short film into the blockbuster feature film. Hoffman also co-produced the sequel, which has also been a blockbuster at the box-office. Mr. Hoffman began his career at the indie company PRO Filmworks where he produced Betty Thomas comedy "Only You." He later moved to Disney, developing a number of films and producing "George of the Jungle." Mr. Hoffman and his partners at Twisted Pictures were currently in post production on "Saw" director James Wans new film "Silence" and the horror film "Catacombs." The company had also announced production on "Saw III" and a feature film remake of the 1970s Made for TV movie thriller "Crawlspace." Prayers of comfort for his family and friends.

Very nicely done horror flick i thought! had some psychological aspects to it as it relays on atmosphere and suspense rather then gore.
I thought it was a nice tribute to movies like "Puppet Master", "Tourist Trap", "Magic", "Dolls", "Child's Play" and "Trilogy of Terror".

One of the best torture-less horror movies of the last decade and that is a nice breath of fresh air for everyone even though it bombed, it will be a cult fave.

I haven't seen this movie in a good while. I enjoyed it. This was back when I never seen a Saw film though. I'll have to go and watch this movie again.

I think it is one of the best horror movies done in a long while. It is so under rated. I would like to see a sequel to it, as Mary Shaw is one of the most frightening characters to ever appear on screen
I love Dead Silence, one of the best 2000s-era Horror films, IMO.

I wish we still had that sticky thread from Gregg Hoffman. It could be recovered. We have the technology.
