Anyone heard of this movie? I think it's coming out next month and it looks like another typical horror movie with teenagers who are addicted to drugs and sex on a vacation gone wrong. But I'll probably see it anyway, since it seems that I see every frikin horror movie that comes to theaters anyhow. But it really looks like they're trying to copy Hostel. You can look on imdb for the trailer and info. What cha guys think?

I heard about it on MySpace it kind of reminds me of The Beach and Hostel. It doesn't look any good but I'll probably see it when it comes out on dvd.

Why do people "copy" from movies when what they copied wasn't any good?

lmao, I might rent it when it comes out for DVD but I wouldn't go to the threaters.

Hostel is based on an something that actually happened, so they aren't copying it as much as it seems.

As for copying a film that wasn't good to begin with, that's just it, I think this could be the movie that Hostel would've been with a competent filmmaker, which Eli Roth is not.

Just so there's not any confussion Hostel is very loosely based on events that might have/probably have or are taking place in the world today. On the commentary Eli said that his friend and him went on a website that offered a costomer the chance to shoot a random person for the price of 10,000 dollars. That's all. There wasn't any torture or elaborate torture chambers where people running them bribe the police to keep quiet about the events taking place in the country or anything of that sort. Just thought I'd clear that up.

And I still don't understand why everyone thought Hostel was such a bad movie. Just because it had nudity in it? Yeah I'll admit that was pretty gross and the whole time I was hoping for some of that sexy guy nutidy instead of just having to frikin see boobs for a few scenes but it's not that big of a deal. It's just character development anyway. If one were to watch the commentary by Eli it would explain his thoughts on it. I don't think they needed to show as much as they did but you either take it for what it's worth or you don't. So that's that.

The only 'character development' it established was the typical overly horny, annoying teen movie cliches, none of them were the least bit likeable. I don't have a problem with nudity, but Hostel did it to the point where over half the film was wasted it and it was absolutely pointless. If I wanted that I'd watch porn, and it'd be better acted, directed, and vastly more entertaining.
Furthermore he did a horrible job on the gore torture scenes, the pitiful acting didn't sell it at all, nor did the plastic-looking prosthetics that are some of the worst I've ever seen in a theatrical release, toppled with not caring one bit about the people being tortured. There's also Roth's extremely attempts at humor(ie. the mean kids that bluggon people, reminded me of that idiotic pancakes crap and goofy cop in Cabin Fever), plus glorifying vengeance with an action movie-esque hero ending, one of many ways Roth failed to achive a visceral, gritty tone.
The concept had potential, but with Roth at the helm it's a lost cause, which is why I have hope for Turistas.
As for the story, I've heard of cases like it prior to Hostel even being made, so whether it actually happened or its just an urban legend, it's not really an original story that Roth created.

I know Hostel was "based" on what "might" happen in Thailand (Some Asian country lol) but nonetheless a lot of films are ripped off from but anyway. Hostel was alright. And if it wasn't for the nudity, you guessed it, it would of been alright. While I think there was too much nudity, nudity doesn't make a movie and worse or any better. Now there were several good things in Hostel it seemed like all Eli wanted to accomplish was to throw a few gory scenes on stage. The idea was awesome, no doubt, but it drowned in its own potential.

yeah, I saw some info on it and said "It looks like Hostel in South America."
And you know it can't be as good if its in pretty, colorful South America. ;)

It is currently on my "wait for DVD" list. It doesn't sound very original.

True dat. I was thinking of doing that but I hardly ever have time to go to the video store and I like the cinima experience much better. I just love the huge screen and all that. So I'll probably see it in theaters instead. But you're right, it really doesn't look too origional, but I don't want to judge too early. :p

Hahaha.

I think it looks somewhat dreadful.
I heard a lot of groans (as in..."this looks awful") from the audience when I saw a preview for it at Casino Royale.

I think it looks really good! I can't wait to see it. It seems like another torture film..which always end up being pretty well done, though im kinda against the cast (cheesy, beach bunny, empty-headed teens)

And what movie do you know that is original now a days? Most if not ALL movies are based on another movie or using another idea. I mean, come on there are thousands of horror movies out there. Most of the original ideas are used up by now.

It was ok. The cave/underwater sequences were a cool conceptbust most of the time I was just bored. The characterization isn't terrible, but it's not good enough to sustain interest for about an hour with almost no horror.
It is a lightyears ahead of Hostel, but that's not saying much.

On the plus side, the Hills Have Eyes 2 teaser alone was worth the price of admission.

What was the teaser for THHE 2?

A wideshot of the desert and a mutant stomps into frame dragging a corpse behind him, then an even bigger mutant stomps into frame after him dragging another corpse before the title appears onscreen.

It looks alot like the poster I posted in the HHE2 thread.

"Turistas" was incredibly predictable. Within the first five minutes of the movie, I already figured out what the bad guys wanted the tourists for, who ends up living, and which characters were expendable. I got bored with it pretty quickly.

This movie looks filled with cliches but I'll probably see it because Josh Duhamel is incredibly fine. It looks like Hostel at a first but I don't think it will be like it at all
