View Full Version : Candyman
Just finishing watching this on cable about 20 minutes ago, forgot how great this movie is, so creepy and engaging and very bloody too, and Candyman is without a doubt one of the scariest villains ever. Definitely a Horror masterpiece and one of my all-time favorites. I remember Part 2 being a pretty decent sequel too although not as good as the first. I never saw the third movie but I heard it was awful. But the original will always be a classic.

I saw this movie a long long time ago.
I cant really remember much of, it.
All I remember is, something about bee's..and a hook hand or something.
A boy, in some grimy toilets.
A giant clown on the wall.
Yeah thats all, but from what I remember, it was a good movie.
Is the candyman a clown? No..hes not is he...he's a big black man right?
I get confused with that and IT the clown. How weiiiird. :)

Easily one of the best movies of the 90's, and Tony Todd is the best performance ever as an iconic horror villain, he has possibly the single most imposing that I've ever heard. It also had a stunning cinematography and score.
Farewell to the Flesh was a strong follow up that maintained the darkness of the first film, Day of the Dead was good but Todd really had to carry the film. It didn't even come close to the atmoshpere and tone of the first two.
Tony Todd's performance as Candyman is easily one of my favorite performances ever and hands down one of the scariest ever of any movie, bar none.
I really have to see Farewell To The Flesh again sometime, I remember it being pretty good.

The first Candyman was great. Tony Todd is a creepy actor and he brought the character up there with the other classic horror icons with a single movie. I too love the asylum scene.
I didn't care for the sequels. They went too into detail with the character, he came off as weak, while in the original, he had such a strong presence, there was no stopping him. The sequels got lazy and just thought of ways to defeat him, eh.

Explain the connection between Candyman and ANOES.
Are they similar because they both kill people?
Candyman and NOES aren't similar at all really, except for some dream-like scenes but otherwise I don't think they're alike at all.
I got done watching Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh on HBO2 a few hours ago, good sequel, not as good as the original but a solid follow-up nonetheless. I've heard Candyman 3 is awful though.
I wonder if anyone here has ever tried saying Candyman's name in the mirror five times  I wouldn't try it personally.

It was a good movie
but like I didn't feel the "scared" effect afterward.. so saying candyman 5 times to a mirror doesn't bother me.
Bloody Mary is a different story though.

Bloody Mary is a myth, a legend.
Candyman is a movie. Clive Barker made it up.
Being afraid of saying "Candyman" five times in front of a mirror is like being afraid of saying "Beetlejuice" three times.

Well don't forget the fact Beetlejuice was a comedy and Candyman was horror..
Don't forget someone also made up Bloody Mary, they are both legends now.. bloody mary has had many movies made about her also so they are both movies..

The folklore of Bloody Mary originated many years ago, and wasn't intended for film.
Candyman was a concept created 14 years ago in a movie. Same as Beetlejuice. They are both equally fictional so I don't see what there is to be scared about.
I can understand the fear with Bloody Mary, some get scared of those boogeyman stories.

Whether it was intended for film or not, it's a story just like Candyman (which was a book before it was a film by the way).

Candyman is a classic.
part 2 not so great, the flashbacks of how he lost his arm were nice.
part 3 is worth a watch, once.
how come they never brought Helen back? at the end of part 1 she becomes a ghost who's able to be summoned through the mirror just like Candyman, but they forgot about her in the sequels.

It very well could have just been used for affect, just one last scare. I don't think that they ever had that idea in mind, of bringing Helen back as a "new Candyman" per se.
But the first Candyman is a classic horror film. I have always loved it, and will continue to do so. Clive Barker is a wonderful storyteller and artist, and is able to grab your attention in any form of his work.

It's a great movie. The original story "The Madonna" (I believe that's what it's called but don't quote me on it) is pretty good too.

The only reason she came back was to avenge what her husband had done to her, after that her soul was at rest.
She wasn't someone like Robitaille who would never be at rest.

Canydman isn't really a slasher movie, it's more psychological.
It certainly wasn't just like everything else in the genre.
