Simple really, what book are you reading and would you recommend it?

Me:

Dean Koontz - Velocity

Gripping stuff, first book i've read of his (pretty much a fan of homicidal/crime fiction/suspense/thriller) and it's great! A bloke gets targeted by a psychopath who leaves him notes which make him choose someone to die (if he does nothing the killer kills someone anyway) and then the killer plants all the evidence on him.

harry potter and the half blood prince - j.k. rowling

Nothing wrong with reading the Harry Potter books although Rowling clearly can't be arsed with them anymore. All she cares about is the moolah and as a consequence she's become complacent.

I just got done reading this awesome book called Teach Me by R.A. Nelson. It was about this girl who gets in a relationship with her teacher. The fact that I have a HUGE crush on one of my teachers may have something to do with why I liked it so much....but no, seriously though, I think anyone would like it.

Right now, I'm reading a book called Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini. I'm not even halfway through it yet, but it's really good so far.

I'm also currently reading the Fruits Basket series (manga). Good stuff. If you're into that kinda stuff (anime/manga).

Although I'm waiting for her to write a new book, I'd recommend anything by Tess Gerittsen. Especially The Surgeon and The Apprentice (in that order, they're a series) as they are shockingly gruesome. :D

Sticks and Stones...can't remember who it's by, though. :D

It's about a girl named "JuJube (nickname) Gelbe", and when she's at the dance with the guy she likes, Brent, he tries to have sex with her in the back of his car, but she refuses. Then he goes and tells all of his friends that she did, and that she's "easy", and so everyone starts calling her a slut, and all of these horrible things happen. So JuJube and her friend Carlos are trying to stop the rumors and bring back the name that is rightfully hers.

It's one of the only books of hers that I like. I saw the movie version of it once and it was a really interesting (albeit depressing) story.

I switch reading material a lot. First I'll read an intelligent book, like Jane Eyre or Rebecca, then I'll go back to reading books that are in no way intellectually stimulating. My brain needs a break sometimes. :D

Is that a Dr Seuss book?
It's a pretty deep and emotional read.

I'm reading one called Lamb by Bernard MacLaverty - it's pretty crap but I liked the ending and I've read worse.

I think I'll read Flowers In The Attic again sometime soon - one of the greatest books ever! And I'm gonna read back through some of my manga :D

Yeah, Green Eggs and Ham is Dr. Suess. (Unless you were referring to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory which is by Roald Dahl.)

Flowers In The Attic is a great book, even though the ending is a little disturbing. Not that you can really blame Chris and Cathy. The movie really sucks though.

Have you read any of the sequels? They're pretty entertaining. Petals On The Wind was pretty good (Cathy finally gets revenge on Grandmother!) but If There Be Thorns was just okay (in my opinion.) Seeds of Yesterday is pretty decent as is the prequel, Garden of Shadows. I love V.C. Andrew Dollanganger series!!

If you've seen the orginal Shining with Jack Nicholson, you'll be surprised to find out that the book is a lot different. The book was good, but I like the movie better. :)

I'll wait and read the rest then maybe I can appreciate it. It helps reading books like that actually in an English class cause we take it apart and look for all these ambiguous meanings, we did that with Animal Farm.

You just have to push through 1984!!! It is one of my all time favorite books. Trust me, it's absolutely brilliant. I had my boring moments while reading it, too, but when you get to the end you'll be glad you finished it. On another note, if you want some brilliant Orwell that isn't as long and slow check out Animal Farm. It's a great book, and it really 'dives right in' from the very beginning.

Currently I'm re-reading The Great Gatsby -F. Scott Fitzgerald[I don't care what anyone says, this book is genius] & Diary - Chuck Palahniuk.

well, i started a book a long time ago that i never finished, if that counts. its out of the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, pretty much a bunch of mice and rats battling it out. ive been reading them since i was in like the fourth grade so it kind of stuck around. something like 19 books in the series, ive read... 17? somewhere around there. anyway, the one im on now is "The High Rhulain"... i think thats how its spelt...

anywho... i would highly suggest the book "my sisters keeper" (sorry if that has already been brought up) to anyone. its amazing. read the first chapter for 10th grade bio, and had to finish it.

I have a few suggestions for people looking for interesting books.

My fav. "chick" novels (that are actually dramas, not mushy romance)

"White Oleander" by Janet Fitch (Mother goes to jail after killing her own boyfriend, girl goes from foster home to foster home, in my top 5 fav. books of all time. I appreciate it for the way it's written as much as what I read.)

"The Poisonwood Bible" (A preacher and his family move to Africa when a war is about to break out. Heavy religious themes.)

Fav. "non-chick" novels

"1984" by George Orwell- I read that my freshman year of high school and it changed a lot of the way I look at things. I mean, I'm not all "Big Bro is out to get you", but it does make you open your eyes to the possibility of what could happen later one down the road, especially with the Patriot Act and all that...(btw, does anyone else find it ironic they called it the "Patriot Act"? What is so Patriotic about taking away our rights?)

"Anthem" by Ayn Rand similar to "1984", an easier read, but not as good.

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell

"Interview with a Vampire" by Anne Rice. It's everything that Twilight wasn't. Aka, good.

"Cell" by Stephen King. Btw, I heard they are making a movie about it later this year.

"Gerald's Game" by Stephen King

"Bag of Bones" by Stephen King

Its probably not that famous overseas, but there is a tv show called Underbelly:A Tale Of Two Cities and I love this show. Its based on true events of famous gangland wars in Australia. And I'm reading the book now.

LOL at Underbelly, man...I never got around to watching that, although my friends talk about it 24/7.

I am reading Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder...takes 3000 years worth of philosophy and crams it into a 400 page easy to read novel. :)

lol, the one that is on tv now isnt as good as the first. i dont usually watch tv much, but underbelly is actually worth it. Best combos ever in a show, drugs, swearing, violence, sex and boobs. NON STOP

I've had Diary forever, and I'm halfway through it. It's just so hard to finish. I never finished Snuff, either. I will eventually, though.

How's Pygmy? Everything I've heard about it is pretty bad. I'm worried that it's not going to live up to Chuck's other books.

This thread. :p

But seriously, all I read at the moment is fanfiction stories.
And though I love them, it's not really satisfying.
But I have read all my books already, most of them even more than once, so I have to get some new ones soon. But I dunno what kind of books I want yet...
Ideas, anyone?!? But no crime stuff, please. :o

Is it good? I saw a book on "famous serial killers of the USA" in a book store once, but I didn't pick it up (which was a mistake).

I'm only about half way done, um it's more for people studying them and using the knowledge later, but if you want to know all the fancy terminology and all that it would be good. Hickey is a professor at my school and is pretty popular w/ the F.B.I.
