I wanted to start this forum, for those who knew Gregg, so they could come and say their good-byes. Share their stories, or just thank him for bringing us the films he did! As most of you knew - Gregg was my mentor and friend. I owe him everything!
Gregg... For the first time in my life I am at a loss for words... Look what you started... Look at your kingdom... You believed in us so much you created something that has become bigger than all of us...
Gregg you saved me from Hollywood. Right when I was about to throw my hands up in the air you swooped in and said come with me kid...
You are already missed!

Never met him but he influenced so many
and will be missed by those of us who were touched by his choices. I don't know what he thought of them himself.. but that's what happens in life
to be immortal is to touch people without trying
to be mourned and missed by those who never met you
I feel bad for all those that did.. because I'm sure they're suffering this sudden loss :(

Gregg-You might not know me, but of course I have a lot to thank you for. Thank you for giving us your insight and upcoming information about Saw III on the boards. For me, it meant alot because someone official from Twisted Pictures gave us information about Saw III and promised that he would make it as good as the second. Most importantly, thanks for giving Leigh and James a chance to make a great movie and believe me-they made an awesome movie. Leigh and Darren made a great sequel too! You will be definately missed. I wished that there were more people in Hollywood that were like you. :(
RIP and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

well i did not know gregg personally like virtually everyone here at the house of jigsaw... but from what ive heard from people who did know him personally and from people who have talked to him through pms or emails, he was a genuine guy and someone who wouldnt be effected by the pressures of hollywood... he was always great to his fans by coming on here, answering emails/pms, and having fun with us here, updating us on the latest news... he will be forever missed by all of us here and those who knew him
hopefully on the SAW II dvd there will be a tribute to him like there was for Matthew McGrory on the Devils Rejects dvd.... i really dont have much else to say but i am definetly extremely saddened by the situation and my thoughts and prayers go out to Greggs family and friends.... you were a great guy, man.

Gregg, I didn't know you on a personal level but your passing has still hit me hard from how sudden it was. It's sad to see such talent gone to waste at such a young age. Hopefully you're doing well up there. We all thank you for all that you've done for us and everyone else out there who was affected by your work.

I was just informed about this board and wanted to stop by and offer a remembrance for Gregg. As a longtime Evolution client and admirer of the Twisted Pictures way of doing things, I know how much he meant to those who worked with him and how shocked and saddened everybody is over this staggeringly awful news. He truly was, in my experience, as smart, affable and cool as the fans on this forum have figured out.
My thoughts are with his associates, his family and the many who knew he was the real deal. Goodbye to a neo-giant of the genre. They say that only the good die young.
Thanks to Darren for starting this thread.

Gregg :( Your family and friends, are in my heart. This is total devistation. Thank you for all the work and effort you put forward into Saw and Saw II. You will be missed greatly by everyone here. Saw III will not be the same without you. Darren, please do Saw III for Gregg. I know you guys will have something to remember him with. Such as " In Memory Of Gregg Hoffman " at the beginning. Even that would be enough to remember him by. But he will never leave my heart.

Gregg,
Firstly, my thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends! Secondly, I never knew you personally, but I can't express enough how much of an impact you've had on me, as well as many others. Saw III definitely isn't going to be the same withoutcha. Well, I suppose - I really can't say anymore, its just... so hard to believe that you're really gone. God bless you.

I had the good fortune of working closely with Gregg Hoffman here at Evolution. I don't even know where to begin as I sit here to write this. Everyone at Evolution/Twisted Pics is still in a state of disbelief and shock. Let me say this: Gregg respected the fans. I am floored by what I have seen people write here who didn't even know him but were able to enjoy the fun of the Saw films. He embraced the fans and absolutely recognized that his business success in life was directly related to all of you going to the films and supporting them. Beyond that, however, let me tell you all that he loved his kids and his wife. He spoke of them often, occasionally sharing with us funny anecdotes about his two little boys. The guy was bighearted and always looked out for his gang here at Evolution. He loved coming to work here and was riding high. I believe these were the happiest days of his entire life. Two great sons, a wife, colleagues who respected him, two hit movies and more in the works--which makes this so hard to process.
Gregg, we will NEVER forget you.

I already wrote a message in another forum, but I will post another one.
Gregg,
through the commentary and the interviews I have seen, he seemed like he was a funny, awesome, sincere person. He also seemed like someone you could go to and find a friend and someone to seek for help. I didn't know him personally, and it wouldn't be fair of me to act like I do, but it is really disheartening to hear of his passing. Its sad to hear someone so young, and with kids, pass away with so much time left. My heart really goes out to his kids, and how sad it has to be for them to loose a father (and his wife for loosing her husband). I pray for the strength for them to go through this hard time.
Hugs and prayers for: his wife and kids, his friends; Darren, Leigh and James, and all his fans.

I'm very sad to hear this...
I have loved the Saw movies ever since I first saw the site for the first movie (about 1 month before the movie came out). Both movies were fantastic and although I never met this man, I am glad he contributed what he did to the world.
I hope the other worlds treat you as kindly as we did.
Until then, peace be with you.

It’s hard to say goodbye to a person who has had such a big impact on so many people. I’ve never met Gregg Hoffman, never talked to him, never PM'd him or IM'd him, but I do know him. I know him from the stories I’ve read and the great movies he’s had a part of and of course, the special bond he and I had with the SAW franchise. We ALL have a special bond with him, as he has touched our dark morbid hearts with visions that excite us. For some, it was for 90 minutes and it was back to the “Real Life” - for others, it was for a much longer time as we participate on these boards regularly. It shows a passion for something creative, something entertaining and something just truly great. It can be called a romance with imagination or secret indulgence with the macabre. But it was a bond. Goodbye my true friend.

Mr. Hoffman,
Although I don't know you personally (like others on the board), I do thank you for your wonderful work and belief in low-budget horror movies like Saw and Saw II. You tapped in an area of film that is often neglected by other hollywood producers. You gave James and Leigh the much-needed foot in the door, and for that, I am very greatful. You gave birth to a new genre that is both intelligent and thought provoking. Your belief and hard work is unweilding. Although you are no longer with us, your memory and legacy will continue to live on through the movies and the memories of people (such as Darren) that you have touched along the way with your kind & generous soul..
You will be dearly missed and my deepest condolences to your family and kids.

There comes a time in everyone's life when we have to say goodbye and let go of the people that mean most to us. Some friends and family are taken away from us far too early. Reading through this thread made me truly see how many lives Gregg has touched. He was a wonderful person. I'd like to express my deepest sympathies to his family and his children.
May his memory live on through others that will continue the work he committed his life to.
Sleep well Gregg. You will be missed.

Although few of us here knew Gregg Hoffman well, he did leave an impression upon all of us here. I personally did not get the privilege to know him, but from what others have said I know he was a wonderful person, the type that deserve to go to a better place after death. And, although we see him as the driving force behind the SAW movies, he was more than that, a person with a life besides SAW, who impacted even strangers, and I will remember him as such. My heart goes out to those who had known him, I'm sure they were hit hardest by this sudden loss. Fare thee well Gregg, you will be missed. :(

OMG, I only found out about this tragedy b/c I was checking the obits at my work (I work for a SF agent and had to see if any of our insured's had died, or anyone who was related to an insured) and saw an article for it. I noticed that it had to do with 'Saw' and was mortified to find out Gregg had died-and so young! I never knew him personally, but from what I can gather, he was a great guy, and he definitely contributed a lot to the 'Saw' movies. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the friends and family of Gregg, and anyone who was touched by this great person! His legacy will live on through his fans and those who knew and loved him. We will never forget you, Gregg! You gave us all a great gift!

Gregg, working with you over the past few years was only supposed to be the beginning of our successes. More importantly, you reached out to me as a friend whenever I needed it. You shouldn't be gone already. You were truly a great guy, and my only comfort over the past few days was thinking back on so many of those great little moments that we all shared over the past few years. I'll miss you walking in my office in the morning to say "whassup, homey?"
You changed our lives, & for that, we will be forever grateful...

This is my first time on this forum but I felt compelled to sign up and give my respects to Mr. Hoffman here.
I knew Gregg from before the original SAW was released and worked with him in various capacities since. I wouldn't say we were close friends but we were good business aquaintances. In my experience, he was a man of his word, he believed in giving the underdog a shot, he was pro active, worked harder than hard and he made things happen. Of all the people I have met in Hollywood, he was the one I believed in the most. No bullshit coming out of that guy; he said it like it was! How refreshing! He was a good guy in an industry filled with bad guys and he will be sorely missed.
RIP Gregg and thanks for all the positive thoughts and advice you've given me over the time we've known each other...they were much appreciated.

(copied from www.stephensusco.com/blog)
"Most people outside the business but interested in it would know him as the producer of SAW and SAW II, among many other films.
But those inside the business, from those who only met him once or twice to those lucky enough to have considered him a dear friend, knew the real man beyond his cinematic works --
-- a man of integrity and honesty, a man who believed in himself and his business partners; a man who gave multiple fledgling directors their first shot and stood behind them, supporting them every step of the way; a man with an infectious enthusiasm, who brought a life and energy to all those who worked alongside him every day; a loyal friend and easy collaborator; a loving father and husband.
I'd been working with Gregg on three projects. And I can only tell you that as a business partner, he was like a beacon of light in what can oftentimes be a disturbingly dark industry...
...but I'd have easily traded any business collaboration with Gregg for more days together as pals, just hanging out and swapping stories.
The last time I saw him, we were sitting in his office and his assistant was telling us the latest overseas projections for SAW II. And he was just smiling that beaming smile of his, shaking his head in disbelief of it all.
Proud of his work, but humble and thankful. Always looking ahead in anticipation of the next big adventure. That's the Gregg Hoffman I will remember.
Gregg's departure, simply put, has left all who knew him with a void that can never be filled."

hey Gregg.i didn't really know who you were until the saw's came out but i just want to say how much I and all of us will miss you. r.i.p Gregg we will all miss you.
What a guy. That sentence is a million things all in itself.
I didnt know Gregg, but knew alot of him. From the moment I heard that he wanted to back 2 guys fresh from film school to do a Major Motion Picture, all at his funding, I couldnt believe it. He stood higher than most men could ever dream. He never, seemed to lose focus or lost sight of the good things around him.
His fans. Man, he loved us. And it was likewise. We loved what he, and his companies allowed others to do. With them and him standing tall from something they knew was right. To take what would be a risk in everyone elses eyes, except his. He had his foot planted solid into what he believed in. And it shows.
I am choking for words, even as I type. Even though I only knew of him, that cold feeling in my chest is telling me I lost a friend. Every fan of Saw, has lost a friend. That's what he thought of every single one of us as, friends. I've read so many times that he talks to every single person who had something to say to him, that's remarkable. Not once have I heard of that in this industry.
He was larger than life. A true inspiration.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his two children, his wife, co-workers, and fans.

Darren, what happened to him? :( I've been off the comp for awhile and when I come back, I find out that a totally awesome guy is dead? :( That's so sad! Was he sick or somethin?
Well, I'd like to say, I'm so sorry from the bottom of my heart for the loss Darren. It seems like just yesterday I was reading a story about him going to see strippers with someone....*looks around* what? there was a story! (i'm not trying to be heartless or anything I'm just trying to cheer everyone up) There's actually no use in being depressed. :o I'm sure he's in a much better place where he doesn't feel pain anymore and he can be happy! And it might sound weird, but he's not really GONE....he's still here in a way. :o

I had the great pleasure of working side by side with Hoffman (as he was so affectionately know as). Trust me when I say he was one of the good ones and we miss him dearly. He was a friend, a co-worker, and a mentor to me. He was always looking out for me and my colleagues and Gregg I thank you for everything. He was a devoted and loving father and husband-he loved being both. To his fans, most of you never got to know him, but believe me he felt he knew all of you. I will miss our sushi meals and miss that connected feeling I would get when we would talk or hang out-he really listened and he genuinely cared.
I will never forget you my friend and yes you are gone, but never forgotten.

Everyone in the Saw II crew did their best day in and day out to be sure that this film was the greatest ever, and Mr. Bousman, you, and Mr. Hoffman, and EVERYONE else, are the greatest people, ever. Gregg Hoffman will never be forgotten, and will go down in history as one of the best producers ever.

Gregg was a guy that saw the potential in people that they didn't even see in themselves.
He was passionate about his work, his fans, and his friends & family.

I know I'm late at posting here, but, I feel I should at least post SOMETHING.
Gregg - thank you SO much for your great work for Saw and Saw II. I can tell that you were such an AWESOME guy, very supportive, and just an all-out laid-back person. I am actually starting film school this fall. It's something I've wanted to do since I was little. But - I never really had the motivation to actually DO something about it. That is until - you brought SAW and SAW II to the screen. Once I saw those films, that's honestly when I knew right then and there, "Yes! I want to be a film writer/maker..." And lo and behold, this coming fall, I'll be in film school. So in saying THAT, I wanna thank you SO VERY much for motivating me to do what I have always wanted! Whenever the day comes where I'm actually producing, writing, ect...you will be THE FIRST person I will be thinking of...and thanking.
You will be SORELY missed, Gregg. :( But once again, THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU for getting me off my ass for once, and finally applying for film school. :)
In the famous words of Lewis Black: "The GOOD die young...but pricks live on FOREVER!" Which is sad, but true. And YOU are a prime example of that quote. You were such a GREAT person, but you had to leave us so soon. :( So all I can say from here is - REST IN PEACE, Gregg. Your legacy will live on FOREVER...

Gregg, you will be missed. Your talent was extraordinarily appreciated. You will be missed but never forgotten.
A note to all who made SAW, SAW II, and any future SAW movies come to life, so to speak, ... I really enjoy these movies. I am so impressed. These are not slasher films...this is a thriller that has has intelligence used. The traps, the story, the characters....all fantastic. Slasher films have some mindless (or close to) killer running aroung slashing people. These films have a very intelligent 'killer'. He is genius in design and making of traps. He is maticulous is creating the environment for the 'games'. He is someone who finds those that don't seem to value life, or go down the wrong path, and give them a reason to die or live and have a new appreciation for their life. It is absolutely brilliant. Maybe I should have put he or she since John took Amanda under his arm and became her 'father'.
To all the actors and actresses....YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!! Wonderful job.

To Gregg
Just like most, I never met you personly, but I wish I had. Everyone on the board speaks fondly of you and I really would've liked to talk to you...
You turned 1 million dollar film into 102 million! If that says anything about how intellegent you were than it would say you were a genius. As a producer I wish I had just an ounce of your skill!
I hope that you stay comfy up in heavn because if i meet you there, I'd love to have the chance to talk to you! see ya in the next life!

Well... i didn't know Gregg private and i never met him. The death notice of Gregg was really shocking to me... it came in a flash!
Germany got the death-notice really late. Over a year after he passed away.
But all in all he gets not less honor of me. He's the person who made everything happened. And we should be proud of that what he has done.
It is really sad that he left behind a family. They can be really proud of their
husband and father.
The world will never forget this great man!
What he deserves is deepest honor!
~>Gregg you are in our hearts<~

everything i could say has been said,
this is late i know. (and legends wait for noone i know)
but for a man whos granted so much and in turn create this place, HOJ, is just amazing. he has given many of us a place to come laugh, chat, vent, rant, share differing oppinions and pay tribute to the reason we are all here, horror.
there only one thing left for me to do.

I never knew Gregg, but with a movie like SAW II, you can just tell he was clever and a magicien with the movie buisiness. I'm curious to know, how he died tho? I mean, on IMDB, it says Natural Causes, but he was only like 40?

Gregg, I know, in Heaven, you are listening to all our thanks - and mine would probably be no more special - but I am deeply inspired by your talent and skills. It is really tragic that you passed so unexpectedly, and the world truly - honestly - lost someone special.
I am praying that, when my time comes to leave, that I can meet you and personally thank you for inspiring my creative thinking.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Gregg Hoffman.

Last night I watched SAW 6 again and suddenly I had to think about you and your work, Gregg.
About the fact that you were one of the most important SAW co-founders, who brought this wonderful series to life,
that just produced it's 6th installment and that made October to SAWctober for us fans!
I wish you could be here to see how big it's become.
I wish I could've personally thanked you for all this.
Thank you for giving me something that makes me feel understood.
Thank you for giving me something that fascinates me for years now.
Thank you for giving me something that still sends shivers down my spine.
Thank you for giving me something that connects me with all these great people.
Thank you for giving me something that strongly influenced my point of view & my life.
I could keep writing and continuing this list till morning light, but it still wouldn't express what I really feel inside.
All I want to say is THANK YOU GREGG.
But these words seem so simple.
Still there's nothing that sums it up any better.
