I got this as a gift (so it's not a question of "should I buy it?") but I've heard mixed reviews from across the board. Should I give it a shot?

throw caution to the wind and give it a shot
since you have it you might as well play it

if you can get over the combat system, i think its a good game. i enjoyed it anyway! Certainly not a 10/10, but i'd give it a solid 7. Some of the puzzles are pretty hard and will take more than one attempt. Enjoy dawwwwwg.

I have this game too. I think, that this game is too underrated. This game rocks! Combat sucks, but everything else is good. Play it!

I think it is. The first reason is you have it so why not? The second reason is it's not an awful game, but it's not perfect though. There are pretty much good puzzles so you can kill your free time. But never relate it to films, just a game.

If you already have it i'd say give it a try. Different people have expressed pet peeves for different reasons, so it all depends on what you like/dislike as a gamer...and as a Saw fan. If you're bothered by bad voice acting (the voice of Tapp sounds NOTHING like Danny Glover for example) then it would get on your nerves.

Give it a shot like everyone else said the puzzles take a min to figure out and the combat sucks but its worth a try

The puzzles are easy in the beginning, they're much harder in the end, when you need to do everything quickly (you know, when there is gas everywhere, and you have to solve the pipes puzzle, especially if you haven't health hypos).

Yeah they do get much harder and more of a pain in the @$$ in the end

I think he was asking if he should try it or bring it back and get 60 bucks to try something else. I haven't tried it, as much as I have wanted to. Probably going to get it on ebay as it's already like half price on there. The bad reviews have scared me away.

I bought it, played it for like 2 hours the day I bought it, and haven't touched it since. I'm probably going to trade it in at some point.
It's worth giving a shot.

If so and if he's a huge sawfan, so let him keep it in his collection. I can't understand why not...
well if you got it as a gift i say keep it just to have it be part of your Saw collection. however if after you play it, you view it as a steaming pile of crap then you could probably trade it back or ebay/craigslist it or something.

I think it's worth playing.
The attention to the little nuances of the series and the details are what really got me into it.
I enjoy the storyline immensely and I have a lot of fun when I sit down and mess with it. I have yet to finish it because I'm taking my time with it, but the way the puzzles increase in complexity is fun for me (for others not so much I suppose).

If you are a hardcore Saw fan and/or like the Silent Hill games, Then its a pretty good game.
Pros:
The traps
Hints at other Saw movies
Tapp
Music is very fitting
You feel like you are playing a Saw movie.
Cons:
Horrible combat
Story is mediocre, Until you get to the endings where it can either make or break the game for you.
Not enough diversity in puzzles, There are very clever ones, But I felt like I was doing a chore instead of having fun.
Final Score: 7.5
Final Note: A game that I had been waiting for, for quite a while. I expected a masterpiece but got a fun game with a watered down story. It felt like it could have been better and hopefully the second installment will be a much better game.

I think its tedious....I got the point after the first stage, after that its the same thing over and over with a bunch of characters never in any movie.

I think some were let down by going into the experience expecting too much. At least we got a video game modeled after our favorite movie franchise. A horror franchise at that. I haven't seen any Halloween or Final Destination or Hostel video games. With that said, I'm reserving judgment for my own experience. I will buy when the time and price are right, and I'm excited to "play the game".
I completed it the other night. I'd give it a 7/10. I found it enjoyable and it tied into the films pretty well despite some glaring discrepancies, but it's bogged down by a poor combat system and some very tedious and frustrating puzzles.

I was going to buy it, but instead I watched the endings on line (I couldn't resist) saw how they were a direct rip off of the original saw movies, with nothing original or interesting in it, and decided not to get it. This is from a die hard Saw fan.
If you like puzzle games, you might give it a shot. Just don't expect anything original in the endings.

I was looking on eBay auctions for the SAW video game. One of them said "SAW Video game! Only played once! Great game!"
I just find it funny that whoever is selling it played it once, and then sells it claiming its a "great game!" Screams "I got it, it sucks, and I'm trying to resell it." to me

I bought it off Steam for the PC for like $50 I think. Later I discovered my laptop could barely run it. Everything lagged and ironically playing the game was like torture. However, I enjoyed it overall. It has a genuine SAW atmosphere for sure.

Still not played this anymore. It's ok but it has nothing that is making me want to play it more.
I would not pay full price for it, it's just not worth it imo.
I'll finish it one day, got other games that are more interesting to play at the moment though, and some more coming up.
The game is definitely overpriced for sure. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it.

The game is alright, but too easy. I even found it on Insane difficulty really easy.
It was fun for the first 2 playthroughs, but I found it kinda boring afterwards and barely play it now.

It's on steam? I was gonna get it on PC, but if it's really that bad I'd at LEAST want a few xbox 360 achievement points for it :P

I rented it for a few days today, because Mass Effect 2 arrives on Monday and I needed something to play in the meantime. It's not THAT bad. Yeah, the controls suck and the combat is really, really bad, but the puzzle solving is fun.
I just got through the Amanda trap, and thought that the puzzle was nicely done for a game like this. :)

I finished it a while ago. I used to find the Steam Pipe Puzzles extremely infuriating, especially timed ones. But after finding out the trick it became pretty easy. Circuit boxes were the opposite and just got worse.
The game was pretty enjoyable but I doubt I'll be playing it again. The story was nice. Leigh and James know their stuff, it easily fits into the plot, but its merely only subplots resolving loose ends.
The two endings were pretty good, very Saw. Both of them were somewhat disturbing.
Combat was ofcourse shit. The music should have been left in Clouser's hands. Voice overs were majorly lame. The females did a good job, especially Amanda, although that might be bias cause I fucking love Jen Taylor. On the other hand Tapp felt slightly uninspired half of the time. Earl Alexander should stay to L4D and the pills.

I'm glad to see others liking the endings.

The saw game prooves Dr Gordon is alive.
We all know John was really talented when it came to healing people who get shot in the throat, was it?
(goes and rewatches Saw)

Once you realize that the circuit puzzles are preset, all you do is die & restart until you get the ones you can remember :)
Those were fun as hell once I figured how to do each one

I still really don't have the highest of interests to play this game. Someday, maybe...once it's being sold used or for $10.

Planning to give this another shot now. Mainly because it's an easy platinum and I want my 10th one lol, but it's been a while since I played it last and I might have a different opinion of it this time.
Combat will always suck on it though.
No. You can just watch all the cut scenes on Youtube.
There's much better games out there, like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2...

Its actually pretty good for saw fans, minus the combat system, thats utter bullshit and also your going to want to resell it after you play it.

I'm currently trying to save Obi, and I have to say that the game is pretty intense with it's timed puzzle solving!
I barely managed to complete the second electric circuit puzzle, the one where you're given about 8 minutes or so.
I felt like William at the end of SAW VI where he finished his game with 1 second left .... damn. :D

Tapp wears the shotgun collar, but Amanda says in SAW III that she built it.
Not a plothole to me, but well ... ;)
Finished the game two hours ago, and enjoyed it.
I'm won't replay it, but it was fun for the time being.
Now I'm looking forward to play Mass Effect 2 tomorrow. *ehehehe*

Well, wasn't Amanda working with John at this point in the canon? Couldn't it be possible that she still made it?
For those who are asking if I could return it for something else--my dad got it for free at work (newspaper). They sometimes have unreviewed dvds and books left for people to grab, he saw that it was Saw and put it in my stocking for Christmas.

I think that as well and also think the Shotgun Collar in Saw III was leftover from Tapp's game.

I finished the game earlier tonight. It was ok when following a walkthrough cause I didn't have to walk around for hours trying to figure out what to do. I would have given up if I had to do that, would have taken hours.
Thought the endings were a bit meh tbh. I'll play it enough to get the platinum but probably not again after that.
